I have a 13 inch doll that has the letters BRU on the back of her neck and the numbers 13 underneath.

What is the maker and how do I know that it is not a reproduction. Her eyelashes seem to be real .

She is not in original clothes . She has earrings in her ears. The legs and arms are jointed. Her hair is very coarse.

checking on the bru mentioned
by: mary ann

I agree with the Doc ... My bru has white interior in the head... and the original pate is cork so look for that... the glass eyes are set in plaster of paris that is very fine and smooth. If plaster looks coarse or slightly rough or makes a white smudge on your fingers.. it probably is repro.

Is the body wood with white undercoating then the flesh color? if not then think repro.

repro vs. real bru
by: Doll Doc Noreen

First...make sure the head is not signed anywhere else as is usually done by repro artists. Secondly...remove wig and pate and look inside head. If bisque is white and you see aged dirty plaster where eyes are set--that's a good sign the doll may be antique. If bisque inside is flesh-tone...you have a repro. Some repro artists create the bru heads exactly like originals...so if white inside--you will need to investigate further. Are eyes glass paperweight type with convex dome when looking from the side? If they are newer glass or acrylic--beware..repro!

Could be
by: Anonymous

Not sure, but could be a Bru. The hair could be course, they used different kinds. Pictures would help. did you look up the number on it.
