antique Hansel and Gretel dolls

I'm not too familiar with the different compositions but these dolls are 15" tall and their entire bodies (torso, arms, legs & head) are made from a rough type of material.
If I squeeze their legs, arms, or head, they're very firm (hard), not soft like you'd expect a regular doll made out of material would be.
Their arms and legs are both movable and attached to the torso (torso, arms & legs are not one piece). Their heads are stationary and do not move.
They both have hair under their hats with Gretel having 6-inch braids hanging out.
There are no markings on each doll -anywhere - at all. While their eyes and mouth are shaped, they're painted.
Any and all information is very appreciated!
