pair of antique character boy dolls

I am trying to identify these 2 which are coming up for at auction next month (I work at the auction room).

The heads are bisque I think (but possibly paper mache), with no markings and the bodies are stuffed with straw with coarse linen covering.

The dolls are about 14 inches tall with very distinctive faces. Has anyone seen this type before?

I would be very grateful for any comments

Having studied them again, as the dolls heads and shoulders are quite lightweight I think they must be strengthened paper mache or composition ( not bisque)
